Description
In patients suffering from cardiac arrhythmias (arrhythmias), the heart beats irregularly in the meantime. If such irregularities occur more frequently, sufficient blood flow to the body is no longer guaranteed.
It may then be necessary to treat the arrhythmias with medication. So-called antiarrhythmic drugs such as lidocaine are used. It blocks the sodium channels, which can normalize the heartbeat.
Indications for the use of lidocaine include:
- certain forms of cardiac arrhythmia
- Anesthesia of the mucous membrane in case of pain and minor inflammations (e.g. inflammations of the mouth and throat, hemorrhoids)
- Infiltration, conduction and epidural anesthesia for nerve blockade
- premature ejaculation
- local neuropathic pain after herpes zoster infection, i.e. shingles
