Description
Carbohydrate metabolism describes all processes of absorption, transport and degradation of carbohydrates. Its most important representative is glucose.
Carbohydrate metabolism can be divided as follows:
– Breakdown of glucose to pyruvate for energy production (glycolysis).
– Degradation of glucose to ribose-5-phosphate and NADPH, among others (pentose phosphate pathway)
– Build-up of glucose from pyruvate in the absence of food (gluconeogenesis)
– Storage of glucose in glycogen (glycogen synthesis)
– Breakdown of glycogen stores (glycogenolysis)
In addition to glucose, carbohydrate metabolism also includes the metabolism of fructose and galactose, among others.
The chip is designed to provide optimal support for carbohydrate metabolism.
