The trigeminal nerve is the V. and by far the strongest cranial nerve. It carries predominantly somatoafferent and to a lesser extent visceroefferent fibers.
It supplies sensation to the facial skin and other areas of the head, receives gustatory impulses (taste), and innervates part of the head and masticatory muscles.
The chip serves to stabilize the 5th cranial nerve N.trigeminus and to support it with all its functions.
