ALS is a severe disease of the motor nervous system. During the course of the disease, motor nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain gradually die. This leads to progressive muscle atrophy, muscle paralysis and spasms (convulsions). However, the mental performance and thinking ability remains unaffected.

The chip is intended to help support appropriate therapies.
