An embolism is a sudden blockage of a blood vessel by an embolus that is transported through the bloodstream. This embolus can consist of various materials, such as blood clots, fat droplets, air bubbles or even amniotic fluid.
Depending on the type and location of the embolism, different symptoms can occur. In the case of a pulmonary embolism, common symptoms include sudden shortness of breath, chest pain and coughing. A cerebral embolism can lead to stroke symptoms such as sudden paralysis or speech disorders.
The causes of embolisms are varied and include blood clots that detach from the vessel wall, fat droplets after bone fractures, or air bubbles that enter the bloodstream through injections.
The chip is intended to help prevent and alleviate the causes.
