FAS – Fascia, fascial system

Fasciae are connective tissue structures that surround muscles and organs. They consist of collagen fibers, elastic fibers, reticular fibers and connective tissue cells arranged in varying densities and run through the entire body like a meshwork.
Fasciae have various functions: They surround bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments of the musculoskeletal system, connect related areas of the musculoskeletal system – so-called muscle ligaments or compartments – and support the transmission of force during movements. Fascia also encloses internal organs, vessels and nerve conduits and plays a role in the transmission of nerve stimuli, such as proprioception or biochemical or immunological information in the body.
