The broken heart syndrome is a sudden functional disorder of the left ventricle of the heart, which in many cases can be triggered by severe stress or pain (caused by loss, grief, separation, lovesickness or strong feelings of happiness) or love. It is counted among the acquired heart muscle diseases (cardiomyopathies).
